Mary's Family
I have lived in West Palm Beach with my husband, Pete, since we were married 36 years ago. We have attended the same church since then. We bought our first home in West Palm Beach's historic El Cid neighborhood in 1974, and we still live there. We have owned and operated an electrical engineering business in West Palm Beach for 25 years that primarily designs computer and medical equipment for Federal agencies.
My parents, Don and Jean Street, moved our family to St. Petersburg in 1957 from Rochester, New York. My father quickly built up his successful home-building business in Florida. My mother managed a busy home for my two brothers and me.
My brothers and I all attended the University of Florida. My brother Tom and Pete's brother Jim were college roommates, and during my sophomore year, I met Pete on a blind date. We married after Pete's graduation and moved to West Palm Beach in 1970. We rented a tiny apartment on Palmetto Street and started saving money to buy a house.
We have no children, but have close ties to our large families. We spend vacations visiting and enjoying our nieces, nephews, and their children. Pete and I live a quiet life at home with our two standard poodles when we are not busy in the community.
